What Is Reposturing Dynamics ?
Reposturing Dynamics is a system of stretches and massage techniques designed to restore balance and flexibility to the body.
Developed by Olympic Sportsmassage Therapist and posture researcher,
Aaron Parnell, Reposturing is a participatory treatment system with
lots of breathing and many stretch positions.
There are exercises or additional stretches available to support the rebalancing process.
It can be intense and emotional at times as stress is unloaded from each muscle group.
You are always in charge of how fast and how far we progress in any one session.
The results are always very rewarding and relaxing - truly a transformational, bodywork process.
How are All These Results Possible with Reposturing Dynamics?
Posture means more than standing up straight, it means proper alignment and balance of the body.
The mis-alignment and imbalance, we commonly experience, are the result
of years of poor habits in standing, sitting, walking and working.
The effects of gravity and poor support work against vitality and natural freedom of movement.
We don't go out of alignment and balance all at once. It happens a tiny bit at a time.
As a result, we start experiencing such things as back pain, headaches,
TMJ syndrome, neck pain, shoulder pain, sunken chests, droopy breasts,
swayback, pot bellies and of course... stress.
The wonderful thing is that all of these conditions can be reduced or
in many cases eliminated simply by realigning and balancing the body
through Reposturing. Most important is that when the body becomes
realigned, major changes start happening in other areas of your life.
Reposturing client, Jan St. John reports, "With Reposturing Dynamics,
everything began to shift for me in other areas of my life. I looked
better and I felt better. The whole structure of my body changed as a
result of working with Aaron. That led me to pursue my life purpose
more deeply and to get more intentional about what I wanted to do with
my life. It all started with looking better and feeling better."
What makes Reposturing Dynamics system of posture and flexibility training unique?
1. Stretch enhanced by the power of your breath and the breathing mechanism; not strength, not time holding the stretch.
2. The goal of RD is your body's full, naturally intended ROM (Range-Of-Motion).
3. Helps align the bones/muscle relationship on your body's natural
weight-bearing surfaces on your body's natural balance points.
4. Helps you develop a naturally functional and aesthetic flexibility
that will help you in everyday life and keep you feeling youthful.
What Happens During a Reposturing Dynamics Session?
Reposturing Dynamics is a combination of stretching, massage
and breathing. For part of the session you will be lying on a massage
table, for other parts you may be standing or sitting. The exact
structure and flow of each particular session depends on your
situation. Everyone is different so the areas that will yield the most
significant results will be worked on first.
Reposturing therapists work to improve freedom of movement, eliminate chronic pain, and correct posture.
Who Needs the Reposturing Solution ?
People who are experiencing chronic pain, poor posture, or poor
performance because they've lost the originally intended alignment,
strength and freedom of movement their body is meant to have at all
ages.
There are at-home exercises; hands-on therapy; seminars
Having great posture can truly revolutionize the way you look, feel, work, and play.
Is Reposturing Dynamics for You?
If you want to experience Pain-free living and Vitality you can actually see, starting today--
If you want to feel better and look better, increase your physical
energy, strength, flexibility and endurance, Reposturing Dynamics is
for you!
How Many Sessions Does It Take?
Reposturing Dynamics can take anywhere from 10 sessions in a few weeks
to weekly sessions for up to a year, depending on the amount of
improvement you want.
Although specific results cannot be guaranteed from Reposturing
Dynamics, most people report noticeable progress in only one or two
sessions.
What is the usual length of treatment?
Eighty percent of clients work with us for 3-6 months. The
number of sessions required for Reposturing for you is dependent on
four factors. (1) How long you have had your current problem. (2) What
your goals are. (3) How responsive your body is to treatment. (4) If
you do your Reposturing® exercises between sessions.
Is this Chiropractic?
No. chiropractic works on the relationship between the bones and the
nervous system. Reposturing works on the relationship of the connective
tissue between the muscles and the bones.
Is this like Rolfing?
The science behind Rolfing® and Reposturing® is virtually
the same. The technology and actual treatment is significantly
different. Rolfing applies deep tissue massage to different muscles and
connective tissue. By contrast, Reposturing uses a unique sequence of
stretches, various massage techniques and a special breathing technique
to eliminate pain, restore alignment and freedom of movement to the
body.
How is this different from Alexander Technique®?
The Alexander teaching requires a high degree of postural
awareness and continual mental effort on the part of the client in
order to restore alignment. By contrast, Reposturing uses stretching
and breathe work to release strain and rigidity in the body ultimately
giving you great posture so that you don’t have to think about posture
or alignment. It happens easily, effortlessly and naturally.
How is this different from the work of Moshe Feldenkrais®?
The Feldenkrais Method® is a series of exercises that are done standing
or sitting in a chair that involve thinking, sensing, moving and
imagining. By contrast, Reposturing® liberates and strengthens the body
into its natural intended alignment in a way that movement patterns
will improve automatically according to the bodies’ original design
without conscious thought.
RD and Sports and Performace
The various stretch sequences, massage techniques and unique
breathing system can have immediate measurable enhancements for both
recreational and competitive athletes.
1. The Stretch
At the cellular level, a muscle’s natural response to a stretch is to
relax. With RD, we lengthen the muscles with a unique sequence of
stretches for each muscle group. Research has shown that longer, more
relaxed muscles perform and recover better than short stiff muscles.
2. The Massage
Among the many benefits of massage, an athlete gains greater
circulation, better nerve communications between the brain and body.
Athletes in the former Soviet Union were among the first to document
the use of massage to enhance sports performance. Using massage to
enhance athletic performance, athletes from the former Soviet States
continue to dominate and remain competitive in many sports.
Armed with the knowledge gained from studies on massage and sports
performance reported in "The Soviet Sports Review," Olympic masseur,
Aaron Ulysses Parnell, used various massage techniques on hundreds of
athletes from 42 countries who participated in the 1984 Los Angeles
Olympics. In every Olympic sport, athletes reported positive results
from the massage and stretch combination. Some bested their own
personal records and won Olympic medals. One hurdler from Morocco won
the Gold Medal and set a world record in the 400 meter hurdles.
3. The Breath
"When you breathe while you stretch the muscle, you get 2% more
relaxation...." said Jack Meager, author of Sportsmassage and also
Official Masseur of the U.S. Olympic Equestrian Team in 1980.
In a brief conversation with Jack Meagher, Aaron Parnell learned about
the 3rd Element that makes Reposturing Dynamics powerful and
effective. Combined with the massage and stretch, the use of a full
breath inhale with an open-mouth exhale, intensifies the muscle
response. It goes further to maximize range of motion, optimize ease
of movement, minimize recovery time and, most important, make your body
athletically more effective and more energy efficient.
RD and Esthetic Enhancements / Cosmetic Improvements
• The effects of stress, tension, poor movement habits,
sleep patterns, and dietary choices take a toll on your body in the
aging process.
1) Some of the net effects that time and gravity have on these elements in your body are:
• Tension lines and creases in the face.
• Tilting and pouching in the tummy and derrière.
• Excess fat and water deposits in the thighs, and arms.
• Rounded shoulders, hump-back, neck jowls.
• Saggy breasts, or too small or too large for your body.
• "Beer belly" and "inner tube" in mid-section for men.
• Getting shorter, more hunched over with age.
2) RD is a safe, effective way to restore your body's natural tension balance and movement patterns in every area of your body.
3) Many of the stretches and exercises you can do yourself with the
Reposturing Dynamics Exercise program. Just turn to the Key Result
Area you'd like to focus on and follow instructions from there.
4) Although there is much that you can do for yourself, there is still
more Reposturizing work that should only be done with the help of a
Certified Reposturing Dynamics Practitioner.
By working with a CRDP, you'll be able to get specific results in key
result areas over a short period of time, usually over a few month's
time. These changes happen gradually and are usually long-lasting.
The natural treatments with your certified practitioner are visible,
measurable, and usually immediate with every session. They require no
drugs, no surgery, and there are virtually no negative side effects.
5) With RD treatments, you'll see cosmetic and aesthetic improvements such as:
• Get taller.
• Body more proportional, aesthetically more balanced.
• Relaxed facial lines.
• Neck jowls disappear.
• Shoulders elevated.
• Bust line raised, size and shape improved.
• Tummy or beer belly and inner tube flattened.
• Body lines more sleek.
• Arms and thighs more firm.
RD and Other Body Health Alignment Challenges
There are many common-but-not-normal body alignment or
postural challenges that people experience. These may be accompanied by
pain, lack of energy or stamina, weight changes, or otherwise.
Specifically, some of these are:
knock-knees, bow leggedness, thoracic outlet syndrome
hump back, bunion toes, low back pain
slew footedness, carpal tunnel syndrome, scoliosis
The Reposturing perspective towards these postural deformities focuses
on why the body responds to weight-bearing and movement in this way.
The combination of stretch, massage, and breath begins its undoing and
correction.
