Idiopathic scoliosis is an orthopedic condition characterized by faulty posture. It might also be associated with some mild forms of facial asymmetry or dental deviations. The aim of the study was to clinically examine the occlusions of patients with idiopathic scoliosis....Conclusions: Patients with idiopathic scoliosis have asymmetric features of malocclusion compared with a random population.

Usefulness of Posture Training For Patients With Temporomandibular Disorders
Journal of the American Dental Association- Usefulness of Posture Training For Patients With Temporomandibular Disorders
Journal of the American Dental Association: Usefulness Of Posture Training For Patients With Temporomandibular Disorders. Many practitioners have found that posture training has a positive impact on temporomandibular, or TMD, symptoms. The authors conducted a study to evaluate its effectiveness...Conclusions. Posture training and TMD self-management instructions are significantly more effective than TMD self-management instructions alone for patients with TMD who have a primary muscle disorder. Practice Implications. Patients with TMD who hold their heads farther forward relative to the shoulders have a high probability of experiencing symptom improvement as a result of posture training and being provided with self-management instructions.

The Predictive Value of Gross Motor Development, Posture and Upper Quadrant Stability for TMD in Children and Young Adults.
Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice: The Predictive Value of Gross Motor Development, Posture and Upper Quadrant Stability for TMD in Children and Young Adults. Purpose: This study investigated the relationship of onset of independent walking, upper quadrant stability and head posture and their value as predictors of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD).... Conclusions: From our results, infants who spend shorter times in quadruped, consequently reduce benefits obtained from closed-chain strengthening of the upper quadrant musculature. This may place these infants at higher risk of ensuing upper quadrant instability and developing postural changes related to TMD. The variables of age of walking, forward head posture and abducted scapulae position appear to be promising predictors of later onset of TMD.

Mysteries of TMD
Article- TMD affects more than 10 million Americans, most of whom are women
Article: ...More than 10 million Americans, most of whom are women, suffers from temporomandibular disorder (TMD), a collection of medical and dental conditions that affect primarily the temporomandibular -- or jaw -- joint and surrounding muscles, nerves, and tendons. TMJ, an older name for the disorder, now usually refers only to a disease or disorder of the joint itself. ..An Air Force study published in the February 2000 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association showed that posture training reduced symptoms by 42% in a group of patients who had suffered for at least six months from TMD....

Correlation Between Occlusion and Cervical Posture in Patients with Bruxism
An evaluation of head and neck posture in correlation to bruxism and other tmd signs or symptoms
The goal of this study was to evaluate head and neck posture in the rest position of patients with bruxism and patients without temporomandibular disorder signs or symptoms to further relate them with Angle's class of malocclusion....TMJ alterations are associated with craniomandibular disorders, which may be a cause of different occlusal classes, where the mandible position establishes a direct relationship with the head and shoulder posture.
